Walter Robinson
Wally moved to Alaska from Michigan chasing his dream of running the Last Great Race on Earth- The Iditarod. He achieved his goal in 2001 when he finished in 40th place with a team of 14 dogs. Wally then married his wife Alissa, began a career in the IBEW as an electrician, and built his family a homestead. Iditarod was never far out of his mind and he continued to work with his dogs. After Emily and Stanley were born and the kids started showing an interest in racing Wally saw his chance to rejoin the competitive racing scene. He worked to train his daughter, teaching her how to race, and succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Wally and Emily ran 3 races together, for two of them Emily had the main team and beat Wally. But he was on the trail to teach her how to race. Emily soon became one of the best Jr racers ever to race in the sport. She started winning every race she ran even against the top mushers in the world! Wally was beyond proud of his daughter but missed being on the runners himself. In 2024 he was offered Josh McNeil’s team and after 23 years he ran his second Iditarod. Wally finished in 11th place and was honored to not only win the Most Improved Musher Award but he also received the Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award because of the excellent care he gave the dogs. Wally is not done racing but he his happy to continue coaching his kids and looks forward to their future success.
